10 Fastest Cars On Earth

Among the parts of every car enthusiast’s fantasy are Supercars and high speed. These cars seem to be endangered species that are rare enough to keep attracting our attention over and over again and never let us get bored with them. But, there are always the fastest ones. The top speed is one of the constant measurements in classifying the performances of the supercars; however, many companies fail to provide such data with absolute certainty because it is hard to reach conditions for the maximum speed of the car to be measured. Acceleration of up to 100 or 200 km/h, time needed for one kilometer or a quarter of a mile drive, and the rest of driving methods are other important elements. The time needed for a car to accelerate from the standing start to 100 miles per hour (160km/h), and then to stop immediately is still the best speed test ever proven. This measurement enables an ideal ratio of necessary performance that characterizes a car as the fastest one. In connection with this, here are the ten fastest cars ever made:

10. Lamborghini Gallardo 13.65 secs

Lamborghini Gallardo is faster than its bigger and stronger brother by three hundredths of a second in the 0-100-0 mph race, primarily because of its lower weight. This supercar is powered by 5.0 liter V10 engine providing 520 hp that scorches it from 0 to 60 mph in 4 seconds.

9. Porsche 911 Turbo 12.5 secs

The new Porsche 911‘turbo’ successfully transfers its 480 hp to the ground and proves that power is not the most important because of its sophisticated integral drive which limits wheel sliding.

8. Caterham CSR260 11.95 secs

British Caterham always has the reputation of being one of the fastest cars in the world (0-60 mph in 3 seconds). It is not surprising because its mass and power ratio wouldn't put super sports motorcycle to shame. CSR 260 uses a 2.3 liter engine that provides 250 hp and weighs 555 kilograms that is approximately 0.5 hp per kilogram.

7. Pagani Zonda 11.8 secs

One of the most extravagant supercars of a mass production is an Italian with a German heart. It is powered by a Mercedes AMG 7.3 liter V12 engine that provides 555 hp, which is sufficient to accelerate from standing start to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and develop maximum speed of 220 mph.

6. Porsche Carrera GT 11.6 secs

One of the technologically most advanced GT cars ever made is the strongest mass production Porsche of all times with the centrally positioned 5.7 liter V10 engine. This Porsche supercar is almost completely crafted out of carbon fibers and composite materials. It became one of the most successful super cars of all times after 1,270 cars were soled recently.

5. McLaren F1 LM 11.5 secs

McLaren is created for the only goal of being the fastest car among others. Such title is provided to it by the uncompromising creation process for ten years during which it remained unbeatable by the competition. It is powered by a BMW gold-plated V12 engine that provides 627 horsepower. 240 mph is the maximum measured speed of this car.

4. Ferrari Enzo 10.9 secs

Ferrari Enzo is the fastest Ferrari of all times, which was named after the founder of a legendary Italian manufacturer. The legendary McLaren F1has beat the fastest car in the world in all categories from acceleration to maximum speed until recently. There are only 400 unit of Ferrari Enzo made.

3. Ariel Atom 10.88 secs

You can buy a dozen of Ariel Atom for the price of one Carrera GT. A small British company from Somerset with only about ten employees manufactured the Atom. It is powered by a Honda engine that is taken over from Civic Type-R and is supplemented by mechanical supercharger providing 300 hp. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds is not surprising because Atom weighs only 456 kilograms.

2. Bugatti Veyron 16.4 9.9 secs

Bugatti Veyron redefined the terms used to describe supercars. Veyron provides comfort and enjoyment to two passengers, characteristic of the most luxurious limousines while its competitors have narrow, noisy and too heated interiors. It is the heaviest car on the 10 fastest cars list because it weighs almost two tons. Despite its weight, it still provides 0-100-0 mph a time of less than 10 seconds with 253 mph as its maximum speed. This is why it was the fastest car in the world until recently. It is all made possible by its sophisticated integral drive and unique W16 engine that provides 1001 horsepower.

1. Ultima GTR 9.4 secs

A small British car company represented its version of ultimate race car, Less than two months ago, for the road drive based on Chevrolet V8 engine that provides 730 hp and entered the Guinness Book of World Records for beating the Veyron’s time by five hundredths of a second. in 2.6 seconds, 720 GTR scorches from 0 to 60 mph, in 5.3 seconds, from 0 to 100 mph, and brakes to 0 in 3.6 seconds without the reaction time of the driver. The GTR did this without using sny traction control devices or ABS braking aids.

Inspiration: The British Steam Car Record Attempt!

The fastest vehicle on the planet in the year 1907 was powered by steam. Currently, steam vehicles are known for being slow, inefficient and generally rubbish, I don’t know if it’s true or not. However, that may not be the way it has to be. The British Steam Car Challenge team is making a new steam powered car, with four boilers and a very high tech chassis indeed, with the goal of breaking the 200mph (321kph) barrier that has stymied other attempts in the past. A technology with ‘legs’ is a technological achievement that would help to establish that steam.

The team interestingly cite raising the popularity of steam as a vehicle propulsion method once again, adding that almost any fuel can be used to generate steam, whether it’s mined, grown, or even captured from the sun. The steam car will be using LPG for their attempt and you can read more about it on the official site or on the Steam Car Club site page also. The BBRC Radio4 also has a radio program about this car. That’s a nice publicity! More power to them if that means that I can have my own steam car few years from now. Wow! How exciting! That would be the best creation of British gentlemen if never.

This steam-powered racer is appropriately named Inspiration, poised to break a 101-year-old speed record of127.659 mph that was set by a Stanley Steamer on the sands of Daytona Beach. The Inspiration's pedigree speaks for itself if the car's slick looks aren't enough to silence doubters. This British steam car is built by the team that created the twin-jet-engined ThrustSSC – the first land vehicle to break the sound barrier.

Water flows into a liquid-propane steam generator within this single-seater's carbon-fiber-and-aluminum body, where it's pressurized to 500 psi and superheated to 725 degrees Fahrenheit. From there it spins a two-stage Curtis turbine to more than 12,000 rpm that results to at least 300 horsepower that should be adequate to slingshot the Inspiration past 200 mph when, if development goes well, it reaches Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats next year

Early next year an all-British team, which is complete with lady driver, will make an attempt on a world land speed record that has remained steady for 100 years. Jesse Crosse reports their condition in facing up to the pressures. The team will decamp to the Verneuk Pan, a lake bed in South Africa's Northern Cape in the spring of next year with their equipments that will include the usual paraphernalia such as toolkits, laptop computers, timing gear, safety equipment and, of course, the car, with a sleek missile on wheels finished in British Racing Green.

A healthy sense of humor prevails despite err and pressures. The science behind the on-board computer systems is explained by a senior engineer, and then proved the point with a hefty and unscientific kick aimed at the main control unit. There was a move to a white board covered in scientific formulae. The car could reach a terminal velocity of 180mph if pushed from a cliff top and it was factually proven by the scribbles. The engineer confided that it is mathematically correct, however, the drivers aren't impressed for some reason.

The team has two drivers for the steam car. Burnett is one of the two drivers. He has raced dragsters and powerboats. Annette Getty is the other driver. She is the general manager of PDS, the family firm that manufactured the tubular steel chassis of the Inspiration. She has no previous experience but is making up for that by her campaign for a Mitsubishi Evo VIII in local rallies.

Ale! The Three-Wheeled Sports Car

George Parker, the President of Fuel Vapor Technologies, is closer now than ever to seeing his dream come to fruition After 15 years of research and labor. Parker is sharing a first glimpse of the Fuel Vapor ale to the public with patents pending on his engine technology. The output of the ultra-light auto is more astonishing than the design of the 3-wheeled vehicle. The turbo charged 1500cc Honda engine the Fuel Vapor ale puts out 180-hp and achieves a zero-to-sixty time of 5 seconds and a quarter mile time of 12.9 seconds with a high mileage. Those results are actually acquired while still getting 92 miles-per-gallon.

The Fuel Vapor technology system developed by Parker feeds a modified mixture of fuel and air compared to the typical combustion engine. After taking the fuel from liquid form into a gaseous form and Parker then it is mixed with the air into the cylinder at an unthinkable ratio. The typical combustion engine has an air fed a fuel mix of 14.7 parts of air to every one part of fuel (14.7:1). On the other hand, the Fuel Vapor ale increases the ratio to 20:1.

Essentially, less fuel is used by the ale to produce a better performing and efficient engine. And there are fewer particles of fuel that fail to burn because the fuel is fed in a vapor form. Thus the Fuel Vapor ale produces 75% fewer carbon emissions on regular fuel even without a catalytic converter installed compared to any hybrid car and far less than any gasoline engine on the planet.

Right now, the Fuel Vapor Technologies Company is waiting on investors to help them along and waiting on their patent to be processed. To make the Fuel Vapor ale a production car, which is a requirement to be considered for the Automotive X-Prize competition is the prime intension of the company. $10million is the prize money put up for the first car to reach 100-mpg; however, the car is ready and able to be produced in adequate numbers and it is the contingency on winning the prize.

For some, the car may be too small or look like a shovel while for others that is fine. The Fuel Vapor ale is certainly a large step toward proving that engine technologies do exist to allow better fuel economy. No one ever asked the Wright Brothers to build a Lear jet after their first flight along the beach in North Carolina, while a 1500cc engine may not drive a Suburban down the road.

A fast new car, which runs on fuel-vapor, is making hybrids seem like gas guzzlers, giving off 75% less CO2 emissions than the average hybrid. The new car is really wonderful because it handles a lot more like a sports car than people would expect from such an eco-friendly vehicle, and anyone can drive it as fast as 140mph, assuming that there are no cops around.

This car is called “ale.” It represents a new breed of futuristic, faster, and more environmentally friendly car. A Honda engine and suspension, and a Porsche steering mechanisms are used by its creators to achieve an extraordinary performance.. 10 gallons of regular gas is the only amount of fuel that can hold by its fuel tank, however the 10 gallons last for amazing distance.
A top speed of 225kmh and the ability to perform 1.7g turns performance is in high end sports car territory with a zero to 100kmh time of five seconds. However, it does this while using only 2.45L/100km and producing far less emissions than the most economical hybrids without using a catalytic converter that makes this car amazing.

Arfon's Green Monster

Arthur Eugene Arfons is a Second World War navy veteran. He is an ordinary blue-collar worker and the man who pushed land speed records to extraordinary levels against the more publicity-conscious Craig Breedlove in the 1960’s. At the age of 81, Art died. Akron, Ohio is his home town where he was buried with spanners in his hands and with his extraordinary things by his side that he achieved through his courage and innate engineering skill. These extraordinary things are: a J79 jet-engine operating manual and a jar of his beloved Bonneville salt by his side.

Art Arfons was included in the giants of land speed record-breaking. The duels between him and his fellow American Craig Breedlove in 1960 on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, when they kicked the record from 400 to 600mph with their new breed of jet-cars, were the stuff of legend. In 1954, Arfons became hooked on drag racing and his Green Monster cars became part of the sport's folklore. This man a muscular six-footer with movie-star white teeth set in a broad, tanned face, whose flat planes and high cheekbones bore testimony to the Greek ancestry of his father, Tom, and the Cherokee Indian of his mother, Bessie.

He ran the family's grain store in Akron, Ohio for many years, but when he shattered the land-speed record in October 1964, the world came to know him as the "junkyard genius of the jetset. The Spirit of America of Breedlove that used an improvised spaceframe chassis with a '37 Lincoln axle up front, a Ford truck axle at the rear, and steering courtesy of a Packard cost $250 000. While Arfons's ingenious Green Monster costs $10 000. Arfons built a machine for $32 to hand-build the body for less than $1000. He rigged up a shotgun for $3, to fire the braking parachutes. The projectile cost Arfons $10 000 Excluding the forged aluminium wheels and rubber tyres contributed by Firestone.

For $625, He acquired the engine, which was a damaged General Electric J79 from an F-104 fighter. He recalled when he got it home he called GE and asked them for a manual and they said no, he can't have one. He had a colonel from the military stop by the next day and told him that he was not allowed to have the engine because that was a classified one. Art showed his piece of paper where he bought the engine and told the colonel that he bought it because they didn’t want it and had thrown it away. Arfons rebuilt the engine without assistance and stunned the military. The military said that the first time they tied it down and ran it they dried up a small creek out behind the shop and it was blowing boulders away! And once, a guy came after him waving a .45!"

Tom Green piloted the jet-powered Wingfoot Express, owned by Art's step-brother Walt, to a record 413.2mph at Bonneville in Utah, on October 2, 1964. Art Arfons donned his trademark black leather jacket and Navy surplus trousers three days later and obliterated that with an easy 434.02. He and Breedlove played out their game of high-speed Russian roulette over the ensuing months. Breedlove attained 468.72, then 526.28, before Arfons replied with 536.71. Breedlove hit back with 555.48 before Arfons reasserted himself with 575.55 in 1965. At 600.6mph, Breedlove had the final answer.

They didn’t have any illusions about the dangers of their calling. Until Arfons's final attempt to beat Breedlove went horribly wrong On November 17 1966. Bob Hosking, the helicopter pilot due to be filming the event, had a nightmare in which the Monster crashed and threw a wheel up through his chopper's blades the night before the run. Arfons sped down the course and was peaking at 610mph when, incredibly the following dawn and the dream of Hosking came true as the car pitched into a series of rolls that scattered it over 4.5 miles of salt right because the front-wheel bearing seized. One of the wheels really flied as high as the helicopter but mercifully missed the blades.

10 Most Outrageous Vehicles of 2008 (Part II)

Hummer HX

From its Army-styled road tanks of the past and into dune buggy territory, the latest concept truck from Hummer moves even further away. The HX takes some styling cues from its bigger brothers and adds a few tweaks designed as Hummer's competition for the Jeep Wrangler. With this, you can get a small, off-road capable, convertible truck that will be a welcome addition for Hummer fans feeling the effects of high gas prices.

Scion Hako

For all the years, Scion never created plain cars, and its latest coupe concept is identical. The Hako will definitely turn heads and create a love it or hate it opinion similar to every Scion car before it, resembling an orange box with wraparound windows. As the Hako includes plenty of interior technology, such as Bluetooth phone capability and video cameras instead of side view mirrors, with the images shown on screens inside the doors, the younger generation is once again Scion's market.

Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe

The newest offering from the classically opulent automaker, which is described as less eco-friendly and more ego-friendly, is a two-door sporting car sure to get you noticed. In contrast to most previous Rolls models, the Phantom Coupe is sleek, fast and fun, designed more to be driven and not driven in. For great extravagance, the interior has a "starlight" headliner that entertains passengers with flickering lights resembling the night sky.

Jeep Renegade

The newest concept of Jeep debuted in auto shows earlier this year and was an immediate topic of conversation. The boldly styled Renegade, with an electric motor, is an open-air off-road 4x4. For true four-wheel drive, Jeep uses one of these electric motors, which get up to 40 miles on a charge, on each axle. For the meantime, a backup diesel engine will get you where you need on longer drives. By covering the truck's exterior with rubber accents, hidden storage compartments, and shortened windshield and doors, Jeep finishes off the unique design.

Maybach 62 S

The company's understanding of the word "luxury" is solidified by the newest model in the ultra-lavish Maybach lines. If you're the one driving this car then you're doing it wrong even though its turbocharged engine can get all 6,200 pounds accelerating at Ferrari-like speeds. It is better considered as a high-powered limo, with the endless list of amenities for the passenger section in back. The only more normal options available are the mini-fridge, wine cooler, leather armchairs for seats, automatic window curtains, auto-tinting glass roof, and personal video screens for every passenger. Grab about $500,000 and give Maybach a call if you want to be driven around in speed and style.

These are the top 10 of the most outrageous vehicles of the year 2008. These are selected based on the performance, modern technology dynamics, designs, uniqueness and usefulness that will absolutely provide satisfaction for the vehicle enthusiasts despite of the large amount of money that they will spent for the investment of any of these vehicles. Any of these vehicles are engineered with perfection that is why these vehicles created an extremely shocking atmosphere in the world of automobiles. So if you are shocked with these spectacular vehicles, and you want to grab one of these, better leave it in your dreams because the prices beyond these extravagant vehicles are no joke. But if you can afford to have one, start to collect now big bucks of money because these vehicles will serve as treasures for you. However, I am sure that there will be another set of outrageous vehicles that will bloom in the world of automobiles for the following years to come.

10 Most Outrageous Vehicles of 2008 (Part I)

There is never a shortage of crazy ideas floating around with all the changes in the automotive world. Luckily, many of those crazy ideas actually see the light of day, and the 10 best vehicles are gathered for vehicle enthusiasts. According to Wes Siler, the road test editor for the popular car Web site Jalopnik.com, the driving forces in today's auto trends are the environmental-friendliness and a concern over high gas prices. He said that the hybrid and "green" car revolution is here to stay, but that the supercar market is a niche one and there'll always be someone willing to shell out big bucks for an exotic ride.

With that mentality, here are the 10 of the most outrageous, extravagant, or just plain cool vehicles to look for in the proceeding year, from green car to supercar and beyond:

Lamborghini Reventon

To begin with, here is the vehicle that is absolutely impossible for you to own, no matter how much money you're willing to shell out. This fighter jet-inspired supercar will be made only for 20 pieces, and they've already sold at over $1 million per piece. Perhaps, it still belongs to the most talked-about exotic cars of the past year, and is certainly worth keeping an eye out for on the roads.

Smart Fortwo

For all of us who want to be a European, the Smart Fortwo is the new American complement to those classic Euro smartcars. According to the company specs, these zippy little cars can reach up to 90 miles an hour, all while getting 33 miles to the gallon. These are small enough to fit in half a parking space. It is the perfect replacement for that road-hogging SUV With a base price of only $11,000.

Bugatti Veyron

If the Fortwo is the cheap transportation option for the non-car enthusiast, then the Bugatti Veyron is the dream machine of every supercar aficionado on the planet. It has 1,001 horsepower that will pin you to the seat at over 250 miles per hour, albeit it is only good for a few minutes. Fuel economy is not something to think about when buying this beast because at top speed a tank of gas will last just 12 minutes. The Veyron is one of the most expensive, albeit fastest, cars on the planet at just over $1.5 million. So, most of us regular drivers shouldn't even worry about getting our hands on one.

Tesla Roadster

There is the new Tesla Roadster somewhere between the Veyron and the Fortwo. At first glance, The Tesla looks like any other high-performance supercar with its Ferrari-like body, $98,000 price tag and sub-four-second zero-to-60 time, but there is a catch. It is actually the world's first fully electric supercar. The Roadster has no backup gas tank whatsoever unlike previous electric cars, just a rechargeable electric engine that according to the company will get you up to 220 miles on a single charge. These expect to hit the streets in the next few months because production has already started.

International CXT

The International Truck and Engine Corporation recently released the International CXT – the largest production pickup truck on the roads. It is the everyday pickup on steroids built on the same platform as a dump truck. This is the perfect six-figure truck for the boy in all of us who still remember playing with Tonka Toys when they were younger. This truck is very ideal for heavy-duty activities both on plain areas and mountainous ones. If you are an engineer, go for this pickup truck because this is the reliable one for your occupation.

Volkswagen Conceptualized Sports Car and Motorcycle in One: The GX3!

Volkswagen presents the GX3 – a completely new type of motorcycle – in a world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The Moonraker team and Volkswagen’s Design Center in California, exclusively with the U.S. in mind, conceived the GX3 to bring an exciting idea to a fully functioning concept. This Volkswagen opens up a new driving dimension with its three wheels and unique design.

The GX3 is Light, fast, and environmentally friendly, which conceptually shows that it is much closer to a motorcycle than to a classic type automobile. This two-seater Volkswagen is unique, being bold, young, and affordable. a new driving dimension is opened by this new Volkswagen, turning even the daily commute to work into a small trip to freedom, allowing you to cruise in the carpool lane, even if you’re driving alone, after all GX3 is a motorcycle, and a completely new horizons for recreational driving is opened up with its keen handling.

The GX3 will be powered by a VW 1.6 liter engine. 125 bhp is produced by the four-cylinder, so far, so good. Nevertheless, the GX3, a motorcycle with two seats positioned side-by-side, is a pure driving machine. And that’s the reason why you can find 125 bhp and 112.5 lb-ft in a simple 1,257 lbs Volkswagen. This end up in a power-to-weight ratio of 10 lbs/bhp. The GX3 is capable to reach a speed of 62.5 mph in just 5.7 seconds and the possible lateral acceleration reaches 1.25g, which values typical of sheer performance cars but delivered from a vehicle under the $17,000 price range. However, there is no comparable sports machine in the world that can come even close to the low fuel consumption of the GX3: 46 mpg (5.2 l/100 km). In fact, a production counterpart of the GX3 could be on the market very soon, depending all on the American driver’s feedback.

The Volkswagen GX3 is different from anything currently on the roads in the U.S conceptually and visually. It is actually a tradition at Volkswagen. The Volkswagen propelled itself to the top in the USA during the 50’s and 60’s because it was with exceptional and unique products, which today all of them legends. All were the cult cars of their time up to the present Whether the Beetle, the Thing (Type 181), or the Microbus. Volkswagen, with the GX3, once again presents in 2006 something totally unexpected and exceptional, a VW in every sense.

Volkswagen’s design team in California focused on creating a quintessential and pure driving machine. The GX3 has a true feeling of authenticity inspired by the minimalist design language often expressed in contemporary GP motorcycles and F1 race cars. Throughout the exterior, these influences are seen with an exposed single sided swing arm, aggressive central exhaust, open front wheels and stealthy matte finishes. The GX3 has a progressive dynamic that is emphasized with a strong graphic that divides the body as it wraps up to the aggressive forward leaning roll hoops. The further examples of track inspired designs are anodized gold and black suspension components and LED lighting.

The interior of the GX3 is all about business with nothing to distract from the absolute driving experience. The five point racing harnesses – “moto” style instruments and a GTI inspired stainless shifter – are equipped in the driver’s cockpit. The rear boasts a massive single 18”x12” back wheel dressed with a 315 rubber most distinctly. A bold V graphic consistent with Volkswagen’s vehicle lineup, most notably the GTI, is proudly displayed at the front end. In no way, the GX3 denies that it is a motorcycle, but to a certain extent plays it up as a unique design advantage. A high-density, warp-resistant, steel construction space frame forms the basic structure of this driving machine. High density fiberglass made up the paneling of the interior and exterior parts of the space frame. A 2.83 tf3 (80 liters) trunk is positioned behind the seats.

A double lateral steering axle controls the 215/45 R17x8J front wheels. While the layout of an automobile is resembled by the front axle and the rear axle displays more similarities to a motorcycle. A monoswing arm is used by the right side of the vehicle. The power of the engineis delivered via 6-speed transmission and chain drive to the rear wheel that has a tire size of 315/30 R18x12J, which is a new super bike dimension. The Volkswagen that will break away from the conventions and that will redefine driving fun and freedom of mobility is already crafted and it is the GX3.
