10 Most Outrageous Vehicles of 2008 (Part I)

There is never a shortage of crazy ideas floating around with all the changes in the automotive world. Luckily, many of those crazy ideas actually see the light of day, and the 10 best vehicles are gathered for vehicle enthusiasts. According to Wes Siler, the road test editor for the popular car Web site Jalopnik.com, the driving forces in today's auto trends are the environmental-friendliness and a concern over high gas prices. He said that the hybrid and "green" car revolution is here to stay, but that the supercar market is a niche one and there'll always be someone willing to shell out big bucks for an exotic ride.

With that mentality, here are the 10 of the most outrageous, extravagant, or just plain cool vehicles to look for in the proceeding year, from green car to supercar and beyond:

Lamborghini Reventon

To begin with, here is the vehicle that is absolutely impossible for you to own, no matter how much money you're willing to shell out. This fighter jet-inspired supercar will be made only for 20 pieces, and they've already sold at over $1 million per piece. Perhaps, it still belongs to the most talked-about exotic cars of the past year, and is certainly worth keeping an eye out for on the roads.

Smart Fortwo

For all of us who want to be a European, the Smart Fortwo is the new American complement to those classic Euro smartcars. According to the company specs, these zippy little cars can reach up to 90 miles an hour, all while getting 33 miles to the gallon. These are small enough to fit in half a parking space. It is the perfect replacement for that road-hogging SUV With a base price of only $11,000.

Bugatti Veyron

If the Fortwo is the cheap transportation option for the non-car enthusiast, then the Bugatti Veyron is the dream machine of every supercar aficionado on the planet. It has 1,001 horsepower that will pin you to the seat at over 250 miles per hour, albeit it is only good for a few minutes. Fuel economy is not something to think about when buying this beast because at top speed a tank of gas will last just 12 minutes. The Veyron is one of the most expensive, albeit fastest, cars on the planet at just over $1.5 million. So, most of us regular drivers shouldn't even worry about getting our hands on one.

Tesla Roadster

There is the new Tesla Roadster somewhere between the Veyron and the Fortwo. At first glance, The Tesla looks like any other high-performance supercar with its Ferrari-like body, $98,000 price tag and sub-four-second zero-to-60 time, but there is a catch. It is actually the world's first fully electric supercar. The Roadster has no backup gas tank whatsoever unlike previous electric cars, just a rechargeable electric engine that according to the company will get you up to 220 miles on a single charge. These expect to hit the streets in the next few months because production has already started.

International CXT

The International Truck and Engine Corporation recently released the International CXT – the largest production pickup truck on the roads. It is the everyday pickup on steroids built on the same platform as a dump truck. This is the perfect six-figure truck for the boy in all of us who still remember playing with Tonka Toys when they were younger. This truck is very ideal for heavy-duty activities both on plain areas and mountainous ones. If you are an engineer, go for this pickup truck because this is the reliable one for your occupation.
